As a foster-based rescue, we can only accommodate cats based on the availability of foster homes. Our cats are placed with families to learn their behaviors, special needs, and adapt to different home environments, including those with dogs and children.

Fostering:

Fostering can increase an animal’s chances for adoption by helping them prepare for their new home. The Arnprior Regional Cat Rescue is looking for compassionate, patient, and loving individuals to volunteer as foster homes for cats in rescue.

We supply everything – food, beds, treats, toys, litter, and medical supplies – whatever the animal needs. We also provide care documents, connections to our foster community, and our foster coordinator.

We often intake cats from situations where they have been neglected or let down by humans and they need time and space to decompress, have their medical needs accessed, and a safe space to learn to trust humans again while we find them the right forever home.

Foster FAQ:

  1. Who can foster? We accept fosters from and around Ottawa and the Valley with other pets, including well-mannered dogs, children, and or single-person homes. We also accept fosters who are renting. To be considered your animals must be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations.

  2. How long do I need to foster? We ask that you provide a timeframe during your application. Some cats need more time than others to adapt. Most fosters will have their cat for 3 to 6 months, longer if needed.

  3. Do we get to pick our foster cat? Based on the application we will pair you with a cat or cats as best we can.  Unless they have applied for a specific cat because of a post, however, if it isn't an appropriate home for that cat we may ask if they are open to taking another

  4. Can I do this? Being a foster home can be challenging and emotional, but it is always rewarding. If you fall in love with your foster, adopting your animal in care is a possibility.

  5. Where do I apply? Please see the application here.
