Arnprior Regional Cat Rescue started in the Fall of 2021, under its original name Arnprior Stray Cat Division Rescue. It was created to help the stray and roaming cats that were at the crisis tipping point both within and outside of the town borders. Along with its change of name in the Spring of 2022, we shifted our focus towards helping the community access affordable spay and neuter services that were offered in locations previously not accessible to the community.
In 2023, we partnered with the Pet Valu in Arnprior to offer a monthly transport program that to date has helped spay and neuter over 1000 cats in the last two years.
Since our creation, we have also shifted our focus to the rehabilitation of the forgotten strays and ferals in our community. We are fortunate enough to have three sanctuaries that work with the cats and give them a chance at a new life in a loving home.
Willow’s Nursery in Renfrew offers love, security and companionship to not only our rescue but others that may need a safe space for a cat that may otherwise be difficult to place. It is a wonderful place for cat socialization prior to cats being adopted.
Helen’s Kindred Spirits Sanctuary on the outskirts of Arnprior, offers 3 quarantine spaces for cats coming into care for the first time, specifically mothers and their litters of kittens. It has a free roaming space as well with bright windows, good food and love.
And finally, we have our longest established sanctuary Nanny’s Place. Built in 2022, it is our retirement and respite space for the most fearful and abandoned cats in our care. This large enclosure boasts a large room with cozy beds, live tv and cedar covered walls for the cats to climb. The cats have access to a large Catio that is 12 feet high by 16 feet long where they can bask in the sun and or watch the winter snow. In addition, it provides a newly built space specific for quarantine and surgery recovery.
We are unique and very proud that we have these three spaces and the support of volunteers and our community to maintain them. Some may never leave our care for various reasons but will be cared for until their final days. As cats show promise and begin to socialize in Nanny’s Place they are moved to one of the other sanctuaries, or a foster home to continue their journeys.
